Lesson Locking Is Live: Keep Your Members Moving Through Your Course in Order

One of the most common frustrations course creators share with us is members skipping ahead, missing foundational content, and then struggling later. Or worse, never finishing at all.

When people can jump to any lesson they want, most of them do. And while that freedom sounds good in theory, it often works against the results your course is designed to deliver.

Our new Lesson Locking feature gives you a simple way to change that.

Most online courses have a completion problem. The majority of people who buy a course never finish it, and in most cases, it is not because the content is bad. It is because there is nothing guiding them through it.

When members can access any lesson at any time, most will jump around, skip the foundational sections, and eventually lose momentum. The course was built to be experienced in a particular way. The problem is that nothing enforces that.

Sequential learning, in which each step is completed before the next opens, is one of the most reliable ways to change that. It keeps members on the path the course was designed to follow, builds knowledge progressively, and removes the decision fatigue of wondering where to go next. Members who work through content in order are more likely to reach the end and get the result the course promises.

Lesson Locking is a course-level toggle located on the Drip and Access screen. Turn it on, and every lesson in your course locks sequentially. Members complete lesson one before lesson two opens, lesson two before lesson three, and so on.

Locked lessons are still visible to members in the curriculum. They can see what is coming; they just cannot open it until they are ready.

When they click a locked lesson, they see a short message explaining what they need to do to continue.

If you already use drip scheduling, lesson locking sits alongside it without any conflict. Drip controls when a lesson becomes available by date.

Lesson locking controls whether a member has earned access through completing the previous lesson. Both apply independently, and both must be satisfied before a lesson opens.
